Facilities and Property Management ( FPM ) serves all members of the Portland State University ( PSU ) community. FPM takes a tremendous amount of pride providing an appealing campus environment in a professional and friendly fashion. The facilities and grounds at PSU consist of over 5 million square feet of facilities and approximately 50 acres of grounds and are the university's largest asset. FPM is charged with the stewardship of this asset which contributes to attracting and retaining students, faculty and staff. The department staff works together as a dedicated team to create and maintain a superior and vibrant urban campus learning environment.

Position Summary

The HVAC Controls Technician is primarily responsible for installing, altering, calibrating, repairing, and maintaining HVAC control systems, building automation control systems, and energy management control systems to ensure safe and correct environmental and ecological condition and other duties as assigned.

All facilities personnel are considered essential personnel and may be required to respond to campus emergencies.

Primary Activity A - Administrative

Minimum Qualifications from Classification

- Graduation from an accredited school (two year program) in heating and air-conditioning AND two years of full-time experience installing, altering, calibrating, repairing, and maintaining HVAC control systems and performing corrective and preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.

- Two additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted for the two years of education.

Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position

Valid driving license.

Journey level skill in using manual and power tools to perform work.

Proven ability to perform work in a professional customer service manner.

Proven ability to communicate effectively with the diverse campus community and staff in the performance of work.

Proven ability to perform the physical requirements of the job as listed in the Special Working Conditions.

Previous experience using Siemens Insight for troubleshooting HVAC issues.

Successful completion of a background check.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting salary rate for this position will be between $19.95 and $21.90 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience, (plus a monthly retention bonus equal to ten percent (10%) of salary), with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.

Pay Range Between $19.95 and $21.90 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience (plus a monthly retention bonus equal to ten percent (10%) of salary)
