Qualification Standards a. Education 1. Required A.S. or A.A.S. in a related field such as computer programming, management information systems, networking, computer operations etc., OR a combination of education, experience, and/or certification(s) that provide the necessary technical competencies to perform in this position 2. Desired Bachelor’s degree preferred; formal technical training and certification equivalent to industry certification at the systems administrator level desirable
b. Experience Required a) Five or more years experience maintaining Linux systems in a small-to-mid-size, a multi-site company with small and mid-tier production platforms operating within a Wide Area Networked environment (>1000 employees) b) Ability to support Linux Systems consisting of PA-RISC based RP class machines for system-level applications and utilities for production, testing and development including; networking, operating systems, integration, patching and kernel development c) Integrate, implement, maintain and support Linux based solutions for multi-node failover support. d) Designing, configuring and implementing advanced network capabilities; TCP/IP Networking technologies and problem determination e) Detailed technical understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, FTP, and SMTP f) Familiarity with system-based security including host-based firewalls, patch management, and anti-malware tools and best Linux security practices g) Vulnerability assessment experience on Linux server systems. h) Administration of numerous variants of the Linux operating system utilize scripting via Python, KornShell (ksh), PERL, ANCI C, secure shell – other shell scripting methods as required i) Implementation of network-based services/protocols (i.e., NFS, NIS, LDAP, SAMBA/CIFS) j) Securing Internet services on Linux platforms (i.e., web-enabled services, mail services, encrypted file transfer protocols); Developing secure configuration guides for the Linux operating system; Using open source tools to secure and validate the configuration of the Linux operating system; Using computer forensics techniques and tools to investigate security incidents involving resources using the Linux operating system Demonstrated competency with all aspects of Linux(NFS, auto-mount, RAID Storage, network-attached storage, Legato / Disaster Recovery, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, TCP/IP, KSH, SH, PERL, CRON, performance monitoring, kernel performance tuning, security, hardware troubleshooting, vendor relations, capacity planning, documentation

Desired 3. a) Industry Professional Technical Competency certification equivalent to RHCE, ASE, CISSP, CCIE, etc. b) Experience with EMC SAN Storage systems, EMC Control Center, and the various RAID levels and their usage. c) Familiarity with industrial best practices on a network, data replication, security, and data exchange. d) Enterprise Architecture Design- Oracle, XML, and LDAP experience highly desired e) Familiarity with HP Operations Manager (Openview) monitoring. f) Linux Support of Database Environments. c. Job-specific Technical Competencies Required a) Broad Functional knowledge of Linux computer hardware and software platforms, network topologies and solutions architecture.Basic principles of finance and the budgetary process related to Mid-Tier Systems analysis and design (business continuity, disaster recovery, etc.) b) Ability to develop highly effective working relationships with all HRSD Directors, Chiefs, Managers, and employees d.
