Maintenance Operator

HRSD’s apprenticeship programs are a combination of on-the-job training and related class room instruction. All can be completed in three or four years. A Math Skills Assessment Test is required prior to entry into HRSD's Apprenticeship Program. You must be willing to work your scheduled shift and attend classes two evenings per week.

This position has been classified as hard to fill.  New hires for this position will receive a $2,000 hiring bonus (paid in two installments, $1,000 in the first paycheck and $1,000 in the paycheck following successful completion of the six-month probationary period.  The bonus will be subject to appropriate taxes.  New hires will also receive 80 hours of paid time off (PTO) in their leave bank on their first check.

HRSD is doing continuous recruitment for this vacancy throughout our service area which includes both the Southside and Peninsula. (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Suffolk, Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg, Eastern Shore and Middle Peninsula) If you are selected to move forward in the process, we will ask your preferred work center location within our service area. There is also the possibility you would start in one location in that area and would need to move to another position when a specific vacancy occurs.
