Attorney needed to assist division director with supervisory and managerial responsibilities and to prosecute cases involving allegations of violations of Real Estate License Law and Commission rules before the Commission. License to practice law in the State of North Carolina and considerable years of progressively responsible professional experience required.
General Statement of Duties
Performs supervisory and managerial and responsible advanced professional legal work as a staff attorney the Real Estate Commission.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class serves as chief assistant to the Director of Regulatory Affairs assisting with supervision and management responsibilities of regulatory affairs, and serves in the absence of the Director. Work includes having primary responsibility for supervising administrative and non-attorney consumer and information staff, training legal and non-legal staff, performing professional attorney duties on disciplinary and civil litigation cases for the Commission, and serving as the internal legal consultant for other departments. The employee handles a caseload that includes the most complex cases before the Commission and provides guidance and assistance to staff attorneys with their cases. Managerial duties also include assisting in developing and implementing long and short-range priorities and policies, performance standards and personnel management and in drafting proposed legislation. The employee also writes articles of a legal nature. Sound Independent professional judgment, initiative and public contact skills are essential in performing various duties. Work requires extensive knowledge of State laws regulating real estate and related statutes intricately interwoven with real estate law, and Commission policy and rules, leadership and managerial skills. Work is performed under general supervision by the Director of Regulatory Affairs and is reviewed through discussion, results achieved, and feedback from management, Commission and licensees and public.
$82,551-$114,675, plus excellent benefits. Hybrid position located in Raleigh area.
